Fuerteventura, Corralejo old town

Fuerteventura, Corralejo. The original part of the town is based around the old harbour, which was used by local fishermen. Here the small sheltered beach, playa la Clavellina, provides safe bathing for locals and holidaymakers of Correlejo alike. Fishing from the harbour wall is a popular pastime, and it is not usually as busy as the photograph suggests. On this particular day there was a competitive swim from Lobos back to Corralejo, and people who had been visiting the tourist information office in Fuerteventura, Correlejo, as well as relatives of those taking part crowded onto the wall for a good view.

The more modern facility consists of a marina for pleasure craft and room for the ferry services to Lanzarote and Lobos, a small island that is a 15 minute ferry ride from Fuerteventura. There are various trips aimed at those on holiday that run from the harbour, and bookings for these can be made at one of the booths dotted about the area In Correlejo Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura, Corralejo sport means that it is well positioned for many sports activities. The are north and east facing beaches close by and this allows those who enjoy syrfing, windsurfing or kiteboarding to move to spend their days in different locations depending upon how the wind is affecting the waves or blowing in relation to the shore.

Those that are into hiking or mountain biking have a choice of off road tracks and the distances travelled can be adjusted to suit the time available.

Besides the trike tours run by Fuerte Trike there are other possibilities including Buggy Tours and excursions as well as quad bike tours, and all of these prove popular with holidaymakers.
If golf is your thing - there is an excellent course within 15 minutes drive that is considered by many to be one of the finest golf courses in Europe. The course hosted the Spanish open in 2004, which is quite a feat when you consider it opened in 2002! A second course is due before the end of 2006 & will allow a little variety for those who need more than one challenging course to make a golfing holiday worthwhile. The course has 18 holes, with a par of 71, & wanders over streams & around lakes. The golf course also boasts a 5* clubhouse, a pro shop, a resident PGA professional, a driving range, chipping area, practice bunker and putting green.
Playing golf surrounded by 340 kms of enchanting unspoilt white sandy beaches and endless Sahara blown dunes coupled with the extraordinary volcanic environment, clear breathtaking views and excellent weather make this a course to be reckoned with!
